Description

This backyard began as an open stretch of grass and concrete with no clear purpose or comfort. The goal was to turn it into a space that invited people to spend time outdoors. The result is a backyard that feels calm, connected, and ready for everyday living.

Concept & Goals

The design focused on creating balance. We defined clear areas for entertaining, lounging, and dining while keeping a natural sense of flow between them. Each zone now has intention and atmosphere, tied together through soft textures, warm light, and simple, natural materials. 

Key spaces include:

A shaded lounge area under a custom pergola
A built-in BBQ and mini bar for easy hosting
A fire pit surrounded by seating for cooler evenings

Design & Process

We began by shaping how the space should feel: open, comfortable, and inviting. 

The pergola sits near the house on a new concrete slab, creating a defined lounge area for both quiet mornings and evening gatherings. Soft furnishings and ambient lighting make it feel relaxed and welcoming.

Beside it, the BBQ and bar zone serves as a social hub. Built-in cabinetry, counter space, and integrated utilities prepare the area for future upgrades such as a sink or mini fridge. 

At the far end of the yard, the fire pit brings people together. It’s surrounded by built-in seating and soft exterior lighting that keeps the space warm and usable after sunset.

Infrastructure & Landscaping

Behind the design, we made thoughtful upgrades to improve function and longevity. New plumbing lines and outdoor electrical connections support lighting, appliances, and sound systems. Layered exterior lighting gives the yard warmth and depth at night.

All existing planters were cleaned and replanted with a mix of trees and textured greenery. The retaining wall and fencing were refinished to match the updated palette, bringing cohesion to the entire space.
